The Fourth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital was founded in March 1954, formerly known as PLA Hospital 304. It was incorporated into PLA General Hospital in 2004, internally called PLA General Hospital 304 Clinical Department, and externally called PLA General Hospital Fourth Affiliated Hospital. After 62 years of construction and development, it has formed a war trauma discipline system with burns and orthopedics as the leading specialties, general surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, urology, anesthesiology, and acute critical illness treatment center as the backbone, and other related departments as support, becoming a comprehensive hospital with trauma (burns), emergency treatment, and critical illness treatment as main characteristics, integrating medical treatment, teaching, and research. It currently has over 50 clinical and medical technology departments, over 1,600 open beds, annual outpatient and emergency visits of 1.2 million, over 50,000 admitted patients, and over 30,000 surgeries. In recent years, major medical indicators have continuously grown at a rate of 30%-50%. It has the PLA Burns Research Institute (national key discipline, Beijing key discipline, one of the PLA's 20 key among key disciplines, PLA "2110 Project" key construction discipline), PLA Orthopedics Research Institute, PLA Nervous System Malignant Tumor Treatment Center, PLA Trauma Repair Key Laboratory, national and PLA clinical pharmacology base, PLA war trauma treatment and scientific research training base, Capital Region Military Emergency Center, Traffic Injury Treatment Center, Beijing Skin Damage Repair and Tissue Regeneration Key Laboratory, and Beijing Orthopedic Implant Engineering Technology Research Center.
