Guangdong Second Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is a Guangzhou emergency medical network (120) unit, a designated Grade III Class A medical insurance hospital, a teaching hospital of Guangdong higher medical colleges, an affiliated hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, a Hong Kong University internship hospital, a national drug clinical trial institution, and a traditional Chinese medicine famous hospital construction unit in Guangdong's construction of a strong traditional Chinese medicine province. Guangdong Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute was established in 1955 and is one of the earliest established traditional Chinese medicine research institutes in the country. During the "Cultural Revolution," the Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute was disbanded. On May 25, 1978, the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government approved the restoration of the Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute and made it an affiliated scientific research institution of Guangzhou College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. On March 15, 1985, Guangdong Provincial Establishment Commission approved the Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute with 30 staff positions and changed it to direct leadership by the Provincial Health Department. In early 1986, the Provincial Party Committee formally approved and determined the construction of Guangdong Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute and its affiliated hospital. In December 1987, the Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute formally separated from the Provincial Drug Institute. In 1990, with strong support from the Provincial Planning Commission and Provincial Health Department, the research institute began constructing a comprehensive building on Hengfu Road. On December 8, 1993, the Hengfu Road comprehensive building was successfully completed, and Guangdong Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute and Guangdong Second Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital officially opened. Currently, the hospital has developed into a large Grade III Class A traditional Chinese medicine hospital with a main hospital on Hengfu Road, one branch, and four outpatient departments. The hospital now has over 1,000 open beds, over 20 clinical departments, daily average outpatient visits exceeding 3,000, "120" annual dispatches exceeding 3,000, and annual inpatient admissions exceeding 20,000. The hospital possesses various modern medical equipment, including large instruments such as nuclear magnetic resonance (MRI), 64-slice spiral CT, digital subtraction angiography (DSA), and has developed interventional diagnosis and treatment technologies in multiple specialties including cardiovascular and multiple laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment technologies including laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. The hospital emphasizes leveraging traditional Chinese medicine characteristic advantages, inheriting traditional Chinese medicine theories and methods, forming over 30 distinctive and leading specialty diseases and specialties. Among them, traditional Chinese medicine cardiology, acupuncture and moxibustion science, and traditional Chinese medicine engineering technology have been rated as national-level key disciplines. Seven specialties including cardiovascular, brain disease, orthopedics, oncology, nursing, and clinical pharmacy have been rated as national-level key specialties. Spleen and stomach disease, respiratory, endocrinology, gynecology, and surgery are provincial-level key specialties (specialty diseases). Clinical application of staged acupuncture therapy, traditional Chinese medicine oxygen scalp acupuncture therapy, Long's spinal manipulation, needle-knife therapy, blood-activating tendon-stretching lotion external application, warming meridian and supporting yang paste external application, and other characteristic therapies, as well as hospital preparations such as "Stroke Recovery Oral Liquid," and characteristic acupuncture methods such as "Seven Needles Around Neck," "Three Needles for Neck," "Three Needles for Waist," and "Staged Acupuncture Method" have achieved obvious therapeutic effects. Guangdong Second Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital (Guangdong Traditional Chinese Medicine Engineering Technology Research Institute) has the national key research laboratory for "Key Technologies in Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula Granule Production," Guangdong Province Traditional Chinese Medicine Research and Development Key Laboratory, and 3 National Traditional Chinese Medicine Administration third-level laboratories (traditional Chinese medicine analysis laboratory, traditional Chinese medicine preparation laboratory, traditional Chinese medicine pharmacology laboratory), over 2,100 square meters of experimental space, over 20 million yuan of advanced equipment, and over 400 square meters of SPF-level animal room. Since 1993, it has been engaged in research, development, production, promotion, and application of traditional Chinese medicine formula granules, undertaking over 100 related national projects. After nearly 20 years of development, it has formed 5 stable research directions: traditional Chinese medicine formula granule preparation technology, quality evaluation, pharmacodynamic and toxicity evaluation, clinical equivalence evaluation, and industrialization key technologies.
