infoAbout
Peking University First Hospital (abbreviated as "PKU First Hospital") is located in Beijing's old imperial city, the hospital closest to Zhongnanhai, and is a large tertiary Grade-A comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and prevention, serving as a central healthcare base hospital. PKU First Hospital was founded in 1915, being China's earliest established national hospital and one of the first clinical medical colleges established domestically. The hospital's predecessor was the affiliated clinic established by Beijing Medical College with approval from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China; in 1946, following Beijing Medical College's merger with Peking University, it was named "PKU Hospital"; after subsequent institutional adjustments, in 2000 Peking University and Beijing Medical University merged again, and the hospital was renamed "Peking University First Hospital." In 2008, it became a central healthcare base hospital. Over more than a century, our hospital has pioneered numerous domestic specialty disciplines and diagnostic and treatment technologies, such as China's first pediatrics teaching and research office (1929), urology (1946), nephrology specialty (1950), comprehensive hospital cardiovascular ward (1950s), pediatric neurology specialty (1961); pioneering domestically improved intravenous anesthesia (1951), congenital heart surgery (1950s), kidney transplantation (1960), introduction of intraocular lens implantation (1983), coronary heart disease interventional treatment (1986), first autologous blood recovery machine (1997), minimally invasive incision lung transplantation (2005), percutaneous ventricular reconstruction (2013), making outstanding contributions to China's medical cause.
