Shanghai Pudong New District People's Hospital, founded in 1936, moved to its current location in December 1990, making it a hospital with a long history in Pudong New District. The hospital is located in the century-old town of Chuansha in the southeastern part of Pudong New District, only 8 kilometers from Pudong International Airport. The hospital covers 43,185 square meters with a building area of 32,621 square meters and 40% green coverage, making it one of the largest comprehensive Grade II-A hospitals in Pudong New District. The hospital has 642 open beds and also manages the 100-bed Pudong New District Infectious Disease Hospital, employing 1,034 staff members, including 845 medical technical personnel, 20 with senior professional titles, 73 with associate senior titles, and 360 with intermediate titles. Clinical departments are complete with 24 secondary specialties, among which cardiovascular medicine, ophthalmology, ultrasound, and anorectal surgery are technically advanced and distinctive in Pudong New District. The traditional Chinese medicine department became a Shanghai Model Traditional Chinese Medicine Department in 2005. Medical technology departments include laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, pathology, ultrasound diagnosis, electrocardiography and cardiac function, pulmonary function, electroencephalography, hyperbaric oxygen, and endoscopy room. The hospital also houses the Shanghai Medical Imaging Research Institute. The hospital serves approximately 800,000 annual outpatient and emergency visits and approximately 23,000 inpatients. The hospital is a teaching hospital of Second Military Medical University and Soochow University Medical College. In recent years, scientific research has developed rapidly, with 51 research projects approved by Shanghai Municipality and Pudong New District, 31 completed projects, and 2 patents obtained. The hospital fully implements computerized management and pioneered the inpatient self-service inquiry system in Shanghai. The hospital has been successively named a Shanghai Civilized Unit and Shanghai Health System Civilized Unit.
